Update the Homepage
- Go to your news homepage (news/index)
- Click Edit at the top
- Banner Image: Optionally add a banner image
- Default Image: Select the default thumbnail image for posts without a thumbnail/banner image.
- Look & Feel:
- Sidebar: Select whether to add a sidebar to the homepage
- Sidebar Widget: See Update Sidebars
- Post Listing Style: Select your layout preference for displaying posts
- Sidebar: Select whether to add a sidebar to the homepage
- Click Preview Draft > Submit
Update Sidebars
- In the Sidebar Widget Group, select the Type of Widget:
- Categories - this will automatically generate other available categories
- Contact
- Create a Contact Block:
- Click Add Content at the top
- Click News > Contact
- Update the Contact Block fields:
- XHTML/Data Definition Block Name: Enter an appropriate name
- Name: Enter the name of the contact
- Title: Enter the title of the contact
- E-mail: Enter the email of the contact
- Phone: Enter the phone number of the contact
- Click Preview Draft > Submit
- Go back to the Sidebar Widget group on your desired page
- Add the Contact Block created in the previous step to the Block field
- Create a Contact Block:
- Related Posts - this will automatically generate related posts
- Category: Select the category to generate related posts from
- Social Media
- Create a Social Media Block:
- Click Add Content at the top
- Click News > Social Media
- XHTML/Data Definition Block Name: Enter an appropriate name
- Update each Platform:
- Name: Select the name of the platform
- Link: Enter the link to the platform
- Go back to the Sidebar Widget group on your desired page
- Add the Social Media block created in the previous step to the Block field
- Create a Social Media Block:
- Custom
- (optional) Add a heading for the content
- Content: Enter content to display in the sidebar
Update the Yearly Folder Homepage
- Click into the desired year and edit the “index” or “<year> Archives” page
- Banner Image: Optionally add a banner image. Add alternative text.
- In the “Look & Feel” group, update the options:
- Sidebar: Select “Yes” to add a sidebar in the post listing section
- See Update Sidebars
- Post Listing Style: Select the desired post listing style
- Sidebar: Select “Yes” to add a sidebar in the post listing section
- (optional) Intro Content: Enter content to display above the post listings
- Click Preview Draft > Submit
Add a News Post
- Go into the year folder (ex. “2024”) and select the month for your post (ex. “04” for April)
- Click Add Content > News > Post.
- Update the post metadata:
- Page Name: Enter the page name of your post. Please make this URL friendly as it will be used in the URL.
- Display Name/Title: Enter the page name as you would like it to appear on the actual page
- Author (optional): Add the author of the post
- Start Date: Add a date to your post
- Category (optional): Select a category for your post
- Feature on News/Blog Homepage: Select “Yes” if you would like the article to be featured on the homepage
- Update the Post Content:
- Banner Image (optional): This banner will display at the top of your post.
- Image File: Select an image for your banner
- Alternative Text: Enter alternative text for the banner. This will be read to screen reader users and will be displayed if the image does not load.
- Thumbnail Image (optional): This image can be used instead of the banner for the thumbnail.
- Image File: Select an image for the thumbnail.

- Sidebar: Select “Yes” to include a sidebar widget in your post. See the Update Sidebars section to customize this widget.
- Main Content: Enter the post content for your site.

- Click Preview Draft > Submit
Add a Category Listing
- Click Add Content at the top
- Click News > Category Listing
- Update the metadata:
- Page Name: Enter a URL-friendly name for the category
- Display Name/Title: Enter the category name
- Category: Select the desired category for the listing
- Update the content:
- Banner Image: Optionally add an image to the banner
- Image File: Select the image to use as the banner
- Alternative text: Enter alternative text for the banner. This will be read to screen reader users and will be displayed if the image does not load.
- Look & Feel:
- Sidebar: Select “Yes” to display a sidebar next to the category listing
- See the Update Sidebars section to customize this widget.
- Post Listing Style: Select how posts should be displayed for the category
- Sidebar: Select “Yes” to display a sidebar next to the category listing
- Intro Content: Enter content to display on the page before the listing
- Banner Image: Optionally add an image to the banner
- Click Preview Draft > Submit
Update Categories
- Click on Manage Site at the top.
- Click on Metadata Sets on the left-hand sidebar.
- Click on News > Post.
- Click on Edit at the top right corner.
- Click on Custom Fields at the top.
- In the “Multiselect:Category” section, click the “Add Item” button at the bottom.
- Enter the name of the category in the “Value” section.
- Click the Submit button at the top.
- Click on Metadata Sets on the left-hand sidebar.
- Click on News > Category Listing
- Click on Edit at the top right corner.
- Click on Custom Fields at the top.
- In the “Multiselect:Category” section, click the “Add Item” button at the bottom.
- Enter the name of the category in the “Value” section.
- Click the Submit button at the top.
- Go to Shared Fields on the left-hand sidebar
- Click Edit at the top right corner
- Edit the Category dropdown and click Add Item
- Add the new category:
- Value: Lowercase category name
- Label: Capitalized category name
- Click Submit at the top
- Click on Shared Fields on the left-hand sidebar
- Click on Edit at the top right corner
- Edit the Category dropdown and click Add Item
- Add the new category
- Value: Lowercase cagetory name
- Label: Capitalized category name
- Click Save at the bottom
- Click Submit at the top
Publishing News Pages
When new News articles are published, any pages indexing the articles (ex. Yearly listings, category listings, main news page, etc.) must also be republished. Pages that are not published will not have the new articles listed.
Due to multiple pages needing an update, it is recommended to use a Publish Set to publish these pages. A News Publish Set with the initial news listing pages is provided in your unit site. Add any additional listing pages created to this publish set and use the set to update the live pages all at once.
