I. Purpose

To set forth policy regarding the president’s authority regarding public health, safety and security.

II. Definitions

No policy specific or unique definitions apply.

III. Board of Regents Policy

    A. Matters of health and safety that affect the general public also affect the university community. In turn, successful achievement of the university’s teaching, research and service missions requires an environment that is conducive to the general safety, well being and security of students and employees. Therefore, the president is authorized to establish administrative policies and procedures that address matters affecting the health, safety and security of the university community including, but not limited to, infectious communicable diseases. Measures taken should stress a positive, preventive approach and be consistent with the university’s mission and role as an institution of higher education.

IV. Delegation of Authority

The president is authorized to establish administrative policies and procedures that address matters affecting the health, safety and security of the university community. See RP 11.205(A).
