475 Practicum for Future Language Professionals

This course will offer a chance for students to apply the knowledge gained from SLS 302 Second Language Learning, SLS 303 Second Language Teaching and other related courses to a specific teaching context.

Students will work with a mentor teacher/supervisor in a multilingual, instructional setting, where they will examine the intersection of theory and practice in language learning and teaching. They will be asked to articulate their own values, rationales for pedagogical and professional decisions, and goals for the future. Students will learn how to create their own paths for their academic and professional careers. Students will be expected to observe and assist on average 4 hours per week for 10 weeks (for a total of 40 hours) at a cooperating school and complete 3 hours of class meeting time per week.
