This course is designed for the aspiring language program administrator and provides an overview of the theoretical and practical issues involved in effectively managing a language program. Topics include:
- Leadership approaches
- Management basics, such as meeting, project and time management, and decision-making
- Human resource management, such as recruitment, team-building and teacher and staff supervision
- Finance, budgeting and marketing
- Other administrative matters, such as scheduling, policy formation and event-planning
Students will engage in the topics through readings, interactive discussions, examination of case studies, practical exercises, and by hearing from guest speakers with expertise and real-life experience from a wide range of language program management contexts.
