480U Topics in Second Language Use: Classroom Interaction

Classroom interaction has been a research focus for many decades. The topic has been studied from educational, psychological, sociological, and anthropological perspectives. In second language acquisition, instructed SLA is a key research direction. This course will introduce students to several discourse-analytical approaches to classroom interaction. From these perspectives, we will examine interaction in teacher-led and peer group activities, and consider what opportunities for student participation and learning are afforded by different interactional formats.
