Congratulations, SLS Graduates!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the traditional Commencement Exercises, we’ve put this slideshow together to celebrate our SLS BA, MA, and Ph.D. graduates. Congratulations!!

Messages from our graduates:

Precious Arao (MA): I am so happy to be part of the SLS ohana! Thank you for those who shared their knowledge and friendship with me! I am happy I found a space to share my passion in teaching and studying about my Filipino heritage. Maraming salamat SLS family!

Savannah Endo (BA): This chapter in my life is coming to an end, however there is always a new one to follow after. I want to thank the wonderful professors and advisors that taught and guided me throughout my academics. I feel more equipped and prepared to go out and seek out career opportunities thanks to everything I’ve learned in this program.

Kathleen Griffin (MA): Thank you all for a wonderful two years! Our department is truly the best. The camaraderie and support that exists among our faculty, staff, and students are unique and the envy of many of my non-SLS friends. I am grateful to be a part of this incredible ‘ohana and for all the friendships I have made here. Mahalo SLS!

Anna Mendoza (Ph.D.): Graduating is bittersweet given the SLS ‘ohana who made it a pleasure to live here for four years: my grad student instructor office mates, so many colleagues doing impactful work in terms of both scholarship and community service, the hardworking SLSSA event organizers, the Multi‘olelo team, critical pedagogy group, and my writers’ group. I only hope the next department I join will offer the same sense of home!

Hoa Thi Nguyen (AGC) produced a video message!

Chau Truong (MA): It has been an incredible journey for me thus far being in Hawaii and being part of SLS. I’ve lived the utmost part of my time here and everyday is counted. Mahalo and A hui hou!
