After years in the insurance industry in Chicago and Honolulu, Chris went to Japan to teach English and fell in love with teaching. She returned to Hawaiʻi to earn an MA in ESL from UH Mānoa. While a graduate student, she taught at HELP and after graduation worked for several ESL programs as a teacher and administrator. Since 2011, she has been the assistant director of HELP, where she has had the privilege of working with and mentoring a number of Department of SLS graduate students. She is one of the founding members of HITESOL in which she has served as Treasurer and Conference Chair.

In her free time, she enjoys going to movies, reading mysteries and thrillers, and playing spider solitaire on the long bus ride home to Kaʻaʻawa to avoid falling asleep.
