Richard T. Cowan

In my current position, as the Apprenticeship Coordinator for the Hawaii Community College, I am also responsible for the coordination and development of the workforce training programs at the Kulani Correctional Facility. The agriculture program, on the working farm at Kulani, provides classroom and “hands-on” training that focuses on food safety protocols and the conventional and alternative agriculture methods for Sustainable Food Production. We reengage these men by introducing them to farming thus reconnecting them to the land. This program provides a trained workforce to help meet the labor needs of the local farmers of Hawaii County.
