April 2024
CAPP has gathered information regarding our General Education (Gen Ed) curriculum, including available reports, proposals, reactions to proposals, and oral input. This report provides background, including why CAPP is providing this report at this time and what has been said
about the need to change Gen Ed at UH Mānoa. We provide a list of inputs reviewed, spanning Academic Years (AY) 2022, 2023, and 2024. Following the inputs is a list of current Gen Ed requirements, relevant recommendations from our review of the last external review team report re Gen Ed (2018), assessment data on Gen Ed categories, and a list of our peer and benchmark
institutions.
CAPP compared our current Gen Ed curriculum to our peers and benchmarks and a sample of WICHE schools. CAPP reviewed the changes suggested in the Summer 2022 Baseline Proposal and the Spring 2023 Multi-Campus Accord (MCA). CAPP’s comparison found our current Gen Ed requirements and the MCA are more similar to our peers and benchmarks than the Baseline
