The Department of Physics and Astronomy Colloquium: Dr. Veronica Bindi, of CERN, to speak on "AMS-02: a new eye in Space looking for dark matter and antimatter."

Abstract:
AMS-02 has been installed in May 19th 2011 on the International Space Station where it will acquire data for the next decades. AMS-02 with its accurate measurements will provide the most sensitive search for the existence of primordial anti matter and indirect search for dark matter and it will contribute to our knowledge of the Universe. A general description of the AMS-02 experiment with its main scientific goals and its major constituents will be presented. The space qualification tests of the AMS-02 will be reviewed and the first phases of AMS in Space will be described.
