The General Education Program at UHM is fully faculty governed. Faculty members serving on one of the GenEd boards/committees invest significant amounts of time each semester overseeing the Program.

GenEd faculty boards/committees are charged with the following responsibilities.

  • Set policies regarding general education - - a prime activity of the General Education Committee (GEC) with support and input from the Boards

  • Approve or recommend courses for GenEd designations

  • Sponsor faculty development resources and workshops

  • Recruit faculty to teach GenEd courses

  • Assess student learning

  • Advise on articulation issues

  • Advise on how to communicate requirements to students, staff, faculty, and administration
