University of Hawai'i Maui Community College Speech Department

Speech 151 Speaking Opportunities

You have five scheduled speaking opportunities in Speech 151, and at least three Impromptu opportunities throughout the semester. You can begin to prepare for most of them as soon as possible by selecting topics.

The first speaking opportunity is to Introduce a Classmate that you will interview in class. Your second and third opportunities are to give a "Bad Speech" & "Vision Speech,". Your fourth opportunity is to present a Commemorative Speech. Your fifth and final speaking opportunity will be your Informative Speech. It is vital to your success that you choose an Informative Speech Topic that you are interested in, because it will be very difficult to interest your audience in your topic if you are not interested in it. Your enthusiasm builds your audience's enthusiasm.

If you are sincere and enthusiastic -- public speaking will be easy for you.
