Medical school hosts international experts in music therapy, Maori medicine

The appearances include a music therapy performance and a lecturer with insights into medicine and the Māori people of New Zealand.
On Tuesday, February 3, at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Reiner Haus will perform and present on "Music Therapy and Autism". Dr. Haus is Director of Music Therapy at the University Children Hospital in Datteln, Germany. Dr. Haus‘ concert is the result of a collaboration between the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa‘s Department of Music and the medical school‘s Department of Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.
The evening concert/lecture is free, and will be held at the John A. Burns School of Medicine's Kaka'ako Campus, located at 651 Ilalo Street. The performance is in the Medical Education Building's Third Floor Auditorium. (Dr. Haus also performs Monday, Feb. 2 at 5-6:30 p.m. at UH Mānoa‘s Music Building, Room 201, an event open to the public as well.)
On Monday, February 2 at 11:30 a.m., Dr. Mason Durie will offer insights into medical challenges among Native peoples. His presentation is entitled "The Indigenization of the New Zealand Health System: Māori Experience 1984-2009".
Dr. Durie is Deputy Vice Chancellor and Professor of Māori Research and Development at Massey University in New Zealand. Dr. Durie's talk is in the Third Floor Auditorium of the Medical Education Building at the Kakaʻako campus of the medical school.
The John A. Burns School of Medicine's Department of Native Hawaiian Health is presenting Dr. Durie‘s lecture. The department has signed a proposed five-year agreement to collaborate with Massey University. The agreement is expected to be finalized during Dr. Durie‘s visit.
