Russia's Asian Connections, III

The UH Russian Studies committee is hosting a three day workshop on campus. The first part of the workshop will be presentations on “Russia’s Asian Connections.†On the third panel, Professor Erika Monahan (University of New Mexico) will be presenting “Women of the Steppe, Women of Siberia in the Works of Cornelius de Bruyn†and Professor Tricia Starks (University of Arkansas) will be presenting “Tobacco and the Image of the Empire in Late Imperial Russia.†In the fourth panel, Professor Ilya Vinkovetsky (Simon Fraser University) will present “A Match Made in Kiakhta: Russian Merchants and Chinese Goods Prior to 1858†and Professor Ryan Jones (University of Auckland) will present “Vladimir Arsen’ev and Whales in Russia’s Revolutionary Far East.â€
