"The Tale of Genji" DVD screening

The world premiere of world-reknown Japanese composer Minoru Miki's seventh opera, The Tale of Genji, was produced in June 2000 in Saint Louis, Mich. by the The Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. The Japanese premiere was produced in Tokyo by the Nissay Theater in September 2000. Mr. Miki's score was an atmospheric masterpiece, its style Western but with an unsettled tonality recalling Debussy and Britten, a modern work that seems absolutely faithful to its ancient poetic source.
