Hilo Campus, Target Store @ 391 East Maka'ala Street, Hilo HI

On Tuesday, August 6th, 2013 Target will be hosting the first National Night Out event on the east side of the Island.

Target Kona has successfully hosted National Night Out Programs the past two years, in conjunction with Hawaii Police and Fire Department Personnel. This year Hilo Target will be hosting and it will be a wonderful community event with Music, Food, and fun activities for members of our community. Together we will present a united front to ensure that crime will not be tolerated on our beautiful Island.

The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Out programs occur around the United States each year on the first Tuesday of August.

National Association of Town Watch (NATW) Executive Director, Matt Peskin introduced National Night Out in 1984.The first National Night Out took place on Tuesday, August 7th 1984. That first year, 2.5 million Americans took part across 400 communities in 23 states. National Night Out now involves over 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all fifty states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
