October 21, 12:00pm - 1:00pmMānoa Campus, John A. Burns Hall, Room 3118
Helen Stacy is a senior fellow at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies where she coordinates the Program on Human Rights at the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. As a scholar of international and comparative law, and legal philosophy, Stacy’s extensive experience in international law provides critical legal expertise to this project. Specifically, Stacy’s skills will be applied to better understanding the nexus between the national governments of Burma, Thailand and China; their connection with ASEAN, the UN, significant donor states in the region and institutions) and their influence upon various policy decisions. Her role in this research project is to engage with key actors in the international and regional policy community, meet with the representatives of agencies in China, Thailand and Burma with jurisdiction over immigration, trafficking and labor exploitation issues, and non-government actors working in these subject areas.
