This is a special public lecture by His Excellency Anote Tong who is the President of Kiribati, the island nation closest to Hawai‘i. President Tong was first elected President in 2003 and is today a leading international voice on the issue of climate change. As head of one of the world’s atoll nations, President Tong is an advocate on the urgent need for action to address issues associated with the effects of rising sea levels. This will be his first official visit to the East-West Center.
