Guzheng Instrumental Performance

Yi-Chieh Jay Lai will present the music of Chinese zheng. This is a plucked string instrument originated in China more than two thousand years ago. The modern zheng has 21 strings and movable bridges. In this showcase, Lai will play various musical styles including classical, jazz, pop, and Chinese. In addition, Kelly Lin, PhD student of Second Language Studies, will play ukulele in this showcase.As a professional performer, Lai has performed in many concerts and festivals among several countries, including UNESCO's World Heritage Festival in Germany. Her album Transformation was nominated as the Best Folk Music Album of the Golden Melody Awards (Taiwan’s equivalent of the Grammys).
