“seaHarmony: A collaboration and networking tool for ocean science professionals”

Abstract: seaHarmony is an online networking tool that directly links ocean science researchers, educators, managers, and traditional practitioners so they can more easily form collaborations. A primary goal of seaHarmony is to help ocean scientists interested in broadening the impacts of their research find potential collaborators in education, resource management, or community engagement. The connections are made using compatibility matching based on member interests and preferences that help define the partnership framework. seaHarmony also serves as a forum for ocean science professionals to post announcements, ask questions and share resources about specific ocean science topics, as well as research ideas or opportunities for collaboration, such as grant proposals, internships, workshops, or public events. Launched as a pilot for Hawaii in May 2013 by COSEE Island Earth, seaHarmony was released for national use in January 2014.
