Topic: "CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN ASEAN AND VIETNAM"
Shirley J. Daniel, Ph.D., CPA Professor of Accountancy, Director of the Pacific Asian Management Institute
Good corporate governance is essential to attract foreign investments and ensure equitable and sustainable growth. Improved corporate governance throughout the ASEAN region is a prerequisite to achieving regional integration and an important element in branding ASEAN as an asset class. Governance systems should address the interests of multiple stakeholders, ensure equitable treatment of minority shareholders, and provide improved disclosure and transparency.
This seminar will discuss the current state of corporate governance in the ASEAN region, and particularly Vietnam. Results of the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard project sponsored by the Asian Development Bank as well as current updates gathered from local experts will provide a stimulating discussion about how good private company governance can support long term sustainable economic growth and prosperity in ASEAN.
Shirley J. Daniel, Ph.D. is Professor of Accountancy and Director of the Pacific Asian Management Institute (PAMI) in the Shidler College of Business Administration at the University of Hawaii. She is also Director of the federally-funded Center for International Business Education and Research. She received her Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University, majoring in accounting with minors in economics and quantitative methods.
Prior to her graduate studies, Dr. Daniel was an audit manager in an international accounting firm.
