"Transbasin Climate Connections: Implications for Western Pacific Sea-Level Acceleration, California Drought and the Global Warming Hiatus"
The presentation will discuss how during the last 20 years an Atlantic-driven intensification of the Pacific equatorial tradewinds caused accelerated western Pacific sea level rise, equatorial Pacific cooling, Southwestern US droughts and the slowdown of global mean surface temperatures. Using observational datasets and climate model simulations it is estimated that the magnitude of the recent equatorial trade wind intensification is completely unprecedented.
