Graduating with the BA in Philippine language and Literature program has helped me in all areas of the above jobs most specifically for the linguist positions I do. The simple fact that I have a BA Degree in language adds a huge contribution to my qualifications. Although the Linguist position required going intensive background check/ Security Clearance and Department of Defense Language testing, I fell it has been the most proud position I do due to my Military background. Through this position, I feel I am more involved in a larger group (Global way.) At my full-time job as an Employment Counselor, I am definitely utilizing my language skills. When we get referrals who are native speakers in Ilokano/ Tagalog, they automatically assign the client to me. It helps the process and transition more fluid, as we know we can relate more and clients are more comfortable working with Counselors who can best understand where they are coming from. I have also been actively pursuing my art and designs making Crown Flowers, art has helped me balance my busy life as a mother and a professional. I also tried to go back to school for my Masters Degree in Science Kinesiology Vocational Rehabilitation, however it became too challenging for me to balance everything last semester so I am taking a break from school this year.
