Welcome to the UH Mānoa Filipino & Philippine Culture Program!

"Pilipino sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa. Sinasalamin ng mga katagang ito ang diwa ng pagiging tunay na Pilipino. Nagsisilbi rin ang mga ito bilang muhon sa mga adhikain ng Programang Pilipino at Kultura ng Pilipinas sa Unibersidad ng Hawai’i-Manoa. Hangarin ng programang mapagyaman ang kamalayan at kaisipan ng mga mag-aaral upang mapatingkad ang kanilang kaakuhan bilang Pilipino at mapag-ibayo ang kakayahan ng mag-aaral sa makahulugang pakikipagtalastasan sa sariling wika. Layunin rin ng programang malinang ang mga kaugaliang Pilipino tulad ng paggalang, pagpapahalaga sa binitiwang salita, paninindigan at pakikipagkapwa tao. Sa hangganang ito, dalangin naming maisapuso nila ang mamuhay nang marangal.

UPDATE!

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jayson Parba is now the new coordinator of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa Filipino Language and Culture Program! He ran unopposed and garnered 100% yes votes from the Filipino program faculty. Congratulations, Dr. Parba! Dr. Parba holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Second Language Studies from the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. His primary focus in both research and teaching is social justice in education. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education major in English (cum laude) and a Master of Arts in English from Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan in the Philippines. He is a dedicated scholar of heritage language learning, an outstanding translator and a well-loved educator. His literary work written in the Cebuano language has received numerous awards. Some of his literary works were published in Dagmay: The Literary Journal of Davao Writers Guild and in Carayan Journal of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. He was a creative writing fellow in Davao, Iligan, and Iyas creative writing workshops. Maraming salamat po!
