Stephany Makizuru

"My name is Stephany Makizuru and I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2014 with a BA in Filipino Literature and Language, and Communicology. Since then I have been working for DOE at Waianae High School. There I am currently working in the sophomore academy and have taught biology, english, geometry, and social studies. For this school year of 2018 - 2019 I hold a current position as a special educator lead for the special education department at our school. Having a Filipino Literature and Language degree has really opened doors for me in many ways. I am currently in the process of starting a Filipino Club on my campus thus also pushing for a Tagalog language class since the population at my school for Filipinos are pretty high. Truthfully being in the Filipino program, and being part of Katipunan at UH Manoa has not only gave me a sense of belonging but it has also provided me with life time memories, and friends. "
