Community Dialogues: “Mindful Walking” with Wiwik Dharmiasih and Jessica L

Join us for a facilitated 90 minute session during which you can engage with peers from diverse backgrounds, learn more about the use of dialogue as an effective method of communication, and practice those skills with your peers. The activities will accentuate and strengthen your understanding of conflict management and their implications for involvement with the community. ----------- About Session: Mindful walking simply means walking with awareness of each stride and paying attention to our breath. It can be practiced anywhere, whether alone in nature or with others in an office or community. This mindful walking practice will give you the opportunity to experience our surroundings and to explore the Peace Path at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. ----------- About Speaker: Wiwik Dharmiasih is a Ph.D. student at the Department of Geography and Environment at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She is currently a graduate assistant at The Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, where she teaches Environmental Peacebuilding. She has been a lecturer at the Universitas Udayana’s Department of International Relations since 2009 and continues to support various community initiatives as research associate with Dala Institute in Bali, Indonesia. -------- Jessica Lau is a graduate student in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. She is passionate about providing holistic support for all students through the multi-tiered system of supports, particularly by supporting schools’ use of data-based decision-making, progress monitoring, and universal screening for academics, behavior, and social domains. Area of focus on education through socio-emotional learning, behavioral strategies, and emotion regulation.
