February 18, 5:30pm - 6:30pmMānoa Campus, Queen Liliuokalani Center for Student Services (QLC) Rm. 412
The Ethnomusicology Association is proud to present Ken Moore of the New York Metropolitan Museum in a public lecture, entitled "The Great Musical Instrument Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York." In this talk, Moore examines how, at the end of the nineteenth century, a forward thinking woman founded a comprehensive collection of musical instruments rivaling any in the world. This fascinating story follows Mary Elizabeth Brown's passionate journey to establish one of the world's most important and historic collections at the then male-dominated Metropolitan Museum of Art. Moore explores Mrs. Brown's motivation and collecting methods and its impact on the present day.
