Inside the Ethnic Studies Studio...Featuring Shing02
February 18, 12:30pm - 1:45pmMānoa Campus, Kuykendall 310
This presentation will feature the multi-talented Shing02. Born in Tokyo, raised in Tanzania and England, Shing02 came up in the independent SF Bay Area scene in the early 1990s. Over the course of his independent career starting in 1995, the bilingual MC has made the transition from sample-based music to live performances with a full band incorporating traditional instruments, while remaining true to his hip hop roots. As the inventor of the Vestax Faderboard, he toured in the free-jazz trio, Kosmic Rennaisance. Recently he released the “For The Tyme Being†mixCD series with DJ Icewater and “1200 Ways†with DJ $hin. In 2014, Shingo directed his third short film “Bustin’†and his latest “The Divider†debuts this year. 2015 will also see the release of the critically acclaimed Luv(sic) Hexalogy (his collaboration with Nujabes, the renowned Japanese producer and DJ) in a double CD format (with new remixes and bonus tracks), as well as the release of Luv(sic) Part3 on vinyl. This is an opportunity to learn more about this collaboration as well as Shing02’s artistry.
