Curating a Decolonial Guide to Hawaii: The Detours Project

September 25, 11:30am - 12:45pm
Mānoa Campus, Kuykendall 106 Events Room Add to Calendar

The Detours Project explores the fantasy of Hawai'i as an exotic destination for consumption by tourists, perverting the genre of the guidebook to produce alternate narratives, tours, mappings and images of the islands, and concrete examples of moving from metaphors of decolonization to material practices and everyday acts of resistance.

Come and join us for a presentation that describes the project and the political and intellectual foundations upon which it is based, and hear some chapter vignettes by UH Manoa scholars across disciplines.
