Ford Foundation Doctoral Fellowship Info Session & Writing Workshop

The Ford Foundation seeks to increase diversity among higher education faculty by supporting doctoral students who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching education. In 2020, the Ford Foundation will award approximately 70 predoctoral fellowships, 36 dissertation fellowships, and 20 postdoctoral fellowships Join Dr. Caroline Sinavaiana, Regional Liaison for the Ford Foundation Fellowship Program and retired professor of English at UH M?noa, will provide an orientation on the Ford Foundation fellowships and advise students on creating a competitive application. Dr. Sinavaiana, a former Ford Fellow (1988 Dissertation Fellow) and current application reviewer, will also lead a hands-on writing workshop focusing on applicant personal statements. This session is for individuals who have already begun preparing a draft of the narrative components of their application for the current application cycle. Requirements for the session include a detailed outline of your personal statement: 2 copies, 12 point font, Times New Roman (preferably), standard outline format, EG, MLA, et al. Registrants will be required to email a draft of their personal statement to gdevents@hawaii.edu by October 18, 10:00 AM HST, in order to receive feedback by Dr. Sinavaiana. If you are interested in having your statement peer reviewed during the workshop or shared with the group as an example for feedback, please indicate so in the email submission of your statement draft.
