UH Contemporary Music Ensemble

April 18, 7:30pm - 9:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Orvis Auditorium

Thomas Osborne, director

The featured work in this semester's performance will be Stephen Scott's "Vikings of the Sunrise" for 'bowed piano ensemble': a group of 10 musicians who play directly on the strings by striking them with piano hammers, plucking with guitar picks and – perhaps most notably – bowing the strings with rosined fishing line. The piece directly relates to Hawai'i (the subtitle is "Fantasy on the Polynesian Star Navigators"). The composer will come to Hawai'i for the performance.

The concert will also feature works by two UH student composers, as well as works by Henry Cowell and Curtis Curtis-Smith.
