CTE Summer Teaching Institute: “A Lens on Culture and Place"

June 5, 9:00am - 1:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Kuykendall Hall 106

This year’s Summer Teaching Institute for Mānoa faculty will trace how this unique place, Mānoa and Hawai‘i, shapes and inspires us personally and professionally, and how we can infuse this knowledge mindfully into our teaching. Exploring who and where we are can illuminate commonalities and disparities that coexist in our classrooms and communities.

During three half-days of workshops and activities offered by exemplar Mānoa faculty across diverse disciplines, we will explore a suite of themes and experiences including:

  • What is privilege?
  • Historical Perspectives on Mānoa
  • Expressing Culture in Science
  • Pidgin
  • Mo’olelo: Our Stories
  • What is local?
  • Island Culture in the Classroom
  • Identity, Diversity, Justice, Action
  • Genealogy of Place

Selected participants are expected to attend all three days of the Institute and will receive a certificate and digital badge upon completion.

All applications are welcome but priority will be given to Mānoa faculty.

Schedule of each day:
  • 9:00am Check-in, beverages provided
  • 9:30am Events begin
