September 21, 10:00am - 11:30amMānoa Campus, Shidler College of Business, Rm. A-101, University of Hawaii at Manoa
Talk will be in Mandarin Chinese and will be followed by pupus.
Jill Chang is the APAC Network Manager of Give2Asia, an international nonprofit organization.
Taiwan is influential but also needs help. Strategically located, Taiwan helps drive social change—it was the first in Asia to legalize gay marriage and is among the most free societies in the world, according to Freedom House. The World Bank rates Taiwan top in East Asia for gender equality in the workplace. One the other hand, Taiwan is one of the fastest aging regions in the world, is #9 on the scale of vulnerability to disaster, and has an growing rural-urban gap. With her profound involvement in the social sector and her knowledge across multiple countries, Jill will discuss three major social issues in Taiwan (aging, youth poverty, and increasing disasters), as well as the trends and opportunities of Taiwan from the perspective of a nonprofit organization. As Network Manager of Give2Asia, Jill oversees operations across 25 Asia-Pacific countries. She is also a
bestselling author and public speaker—her book Quiet is a Superpower has become a bestseller in Taiwan; the English version is scheduled to be published in 2020.
