Data considerations when using Gemini and other generative AI at UH
While data from your Gemini activity will never be reviewed by humans nor used by Google to train or improve their AI models when used with your Google@UH account, you should continue to exercise caution when interacting with and providing prompts or data to any generative AI (genAI) models, including Gemini and you should avoid supplying sensitive information, including personal, confidential, or proprietary information or data. When interacting with any generative AI, ITS recommends that you:
- do not include any PII (personal identifiable information) in your prompts
- do not include student work or FERPA protected data in your prompts
- do not include other sensitive, confidential, or proprietary information in your prompts
Note: The "Increase productivity..." activities in Module 2 of the training direct you to sign up for Workspace Labs with a personal Google Account (e.g., an @gmail.com account). Please be aware these activities that require the use of a personal Google Account are OPTIONAL and may be skipped. Should you choose to complete these activities with a personal Google Account, understand that you:
- will be enabling features for your personal Google Account that are governed under a separate privacy notice and terms of service
- should not include any PII or other protected, sensitive, confidential, or proprietary information in your prompts
