The University of Hawaii Office of Sustainability (UHOS) was formally established in February 2015 with the electronic signing of the Executive Sustainability Policy by UH President David Lassner.

On Thursday, February 26, 2015 UH President David Lassner formalized the Executive Sustainability Policy with a paperless signature swiped from his iPad in front of the gathered assembly at the 3rd Annual Hawaiʻi Sustainability in Higher Education Summit.

The policy was developed over three years with input from sustainability leaders and stakeholders from across all ten campuses, beginning in 2012 with a strategic planning session convened at UH West Oahu.

The Executive Sustainability Policy serves as a guiding framework for campus-level planning and implementation to achieve our sustainability goals in the areas of Operations, Curriculum, Research & Scholarship, Community Engagement and Cultural Connections.

This builds upon many years of previous work by passionate sustainability leaders from our students, staff, faculty and administrators and is an essential step to align system resources to support the many grassroots efforts under way in our classrooms, campuses and communities across the state.
