"Along the Silk Road" - A Photo Exhibit

October 2, 8:00am - 6:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Hamilton Library, 1st Floor

The Silk Road, or Silk Route, is a series of trade and cultural transmission routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and the East by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from China and India to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time. Extending 4,000 miles (6,437 kilometers), the Silk Road derives its name from the lucrative trade in Chinese silk carried out along its length, beginning during the Han dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). The Silk Road played an irreplaceable role in bridging eastern and western culture and promoting commercial and trade contacts.

Today, China attaches great importance to the "Belt and Road" initiatives, or the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. The Silk Road Economic Belt is slated to be established along the ancient Silk Road trade route, which stretches northwest from China's coastal area through Central Asia, the Middle East and on to Europe, while the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road will run through the country's south to Southeast Asia.

Destinations along China's section of the "Belt and Road" are bestowed with natural beauty, profound history and diversified culture. This photo exhibition presented by the Xinhua Gallery and the China National Tourist Office Los Angeles will offer you a glimpse of what you can experience along the "Belt and Road."
