Thomas Osborne is professor of music composition and theory at the University of Hawai‘i-MÄnoa. For the past decade, he has composed extensively for Korean and other Asian instruments and has collaborated with some of Korea’s most-recognized traditional musicians. In this presentation, he will discuss the experience of approaching a culture and its musical instruments from the perspective of an outsider and will present the results of his collaborations with Korean performers in video and audio recordings.
