"The ʻintimate sphere of poetry' of Ștefan Baciu, Jean Charlot, and Larry Kauanoe Kimura in the Literary Magazine MELE-International Poetry Letter from Hawai'i."

Ștefan Baciu published MELE-International Poetry Letter, a vast and pluralistic cosmos, which generated an intimate sphere woven through poetry friendships spreading beyond the oceans. It was distributed to more than 60 countries from Honolulu between 1965 and 1994 with 90 issues in total. This talk will describe this intimate sphere of poetry, focusing on two major contributors from Hawaiʻi: Jean Charlot and Larry Kauanoe Kimura.

Yoshiro Sakamoto is a PhD candidate in literature and cultural studies at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and currently a visiting researcher at the Center for Biographical Research at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
