Supporting the Language Development of Hawaii’s Bilingual Children

This 2-part event is to support the language development of bilingual children in the local Hawaiian community, through 2 initiatives:

1) A free ONLINE webinar on
Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

This webinar, led by Dr. Susie Bartolome Peterson, CScD. CCC-SLP, Assistant Professor at the University of Hawai'i, will provide education to bilingual/multilingual families to learn what to expect in their child's language development, and how to support proficiency in both languages. Family concerns and questions will be addressed.

2) A free speech/language and hearing screening on:
Friday, May 28, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

This hearing screening is for children of all ages in the local Oahu community to help identify any hearing impairment that may affect their language development.

The hearing screening, led by Dr. Lisa Taniguchi, AuD. CCC-A, Assistant Professor at the University of Hawai'i, will be held at the University Health Partners of Hawai'i Speech & Hearing Clinic (UHPSHC), located next to the JABSOM campus in Kakaako, Honolulu.

Licensed and ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists will be available to provide you with information on the typical hearing and communication skills expected for the age of the child and address any concerns you may have on an individual basis.
