University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo campus

Three University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo students will be studying abroad this academic year after receiving the prestigious national Benjamin A. Gilman Study Abroad Scholarship in the amount of $5,000.

Hiʻinae Miller will study at the University of Essex in Colchester, United Kingdom. A kinesiology major with an English minor, she will take an array of courses while abroad that will complement her UH Hilo degrees.

Ron O’Brien is a student in the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management and will be studying at the Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. O’Brien is eager to learn the different techniques and approaches to sustainability taught in Sweden.

Mitchell Sambrano will be headed to Tokyo Gakugei University in Tokyo, Japan. His interest in studying the Japanese language and culture started from when he was a student at Honokaʻa High School.
