An estimated 80 elementary students from Oʻahu‘s Mālama Honua Public Charter School recently participated in a field trip that included activities on ocean acidification and marine debris with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology.

Funding for the first through fourth graders was made possible through the Native Hawaiian Science and Engineering Mentorship Program‘s Hoʻomānalowai grant, a partnership that provides science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) exploration opportunities.

Part of the excursion included a visit with UH President David Lassner to thank him for his support of their learning.
