The attendees had the opportunity to engage with students, faculty and staff from approximately 200 academic programs and services, and experienced more than 250 activities ranging from hands-on workshops, demonstrations, food, entertainment and more, including: demonstrations and workshops with Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge; School of Life Sciences presentations about how blind fish evolve super sensors to adapt to extreme environments or about the discovery of new microbes throughout Hawaiʻi; and a walk through a 45 ft. inflatable whale to explore its anatomy in 3D.

“I hope that they see that your university, right here in your backyard, is a world class university with something for everybody,” UH Mānoa Provost Michael Bruno said.

Current students and employees led walking tours of the campus and facilities, including the Warrior Recreation Center, student housing, insect museum, physics and astronomy lab, Brain and Behavior Lab, School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology labs and more.

“I’m pretty excited because I’m almost to the age to obviously go to college. And both of my parents are UH alumni, including my older brother, so I’m looking at this school to be a prospect,” said Daniel Shiraki, a Kalani High School junior.

Melanie Shiraki, Daniel’s mother and a proud UH alumna said, “For him to consider UH is really exciting. At least he’ll be at home with us still, but going to a really good school.”

Discover UH Mānoa attendees purchased UH gear from the UH Mānoa Bookstore, and interacted with UH athletes and coaches from at least eight different sports teams for games, prize drawings, autographs and photo ops.
