The University of Hawaiʻi Community Colleges were proud to recognize the significant impact their seven campuses have on their students, diverse communities, and the economic future of Hawaiʻi in a recent video series to celebrate National Community College Month.
Working with KITV, the UH Community Colleges produced a series of segments which highlighted each campus’ unique programs that showcased the endless possibilities and opportunities for its students. These segments were aired on KITV’s Island Life LIVE.
“We are so proud of the vital role that our UH Community Colleges serve in our state,” said Erika Lacro, vice president for community colleges. “Our campuses have garnered respect and national recognition for their innovative approaches to attracting, retaining and graduating students, which has resulted in an unprecedented surge in enrollment and graduation rates. As we continue to meet the diverse and changing needs of our communities for in-demand, living wage jobs, our campuses continue to remain the most affordable option for higher education in the state.”
In Hawaiʻi, 49% of all public post-secondary undergraduates attend a University of Hawaiʻi Community College. There are more than 24,000 college credit-earning students enrolled annually across seven campuses. The community colleges also served an additional 10,760 students over the last year, with non-credit workforce training and community education/enrichment programs.
The UH Community Colleges continue to be a very affordable source for higher education in Hawaiʻi. The cost to attend one year at a UH Community College campus is approximately $3,100, and earning an associate degree can be achieved for less than $8,000.
This year also commemorates the 60th anniversary of the UH Community Colleges’ commitment to delivering a high-quality, accessible, and affordable education system in the state since 1964.
