This year’s challenges ranged from improving the state’s open data portal, better energy efficiency and creating a game to help identify bird species in Hawaiʻi.
The award aims to encourage students to pursue careers in transportation and research, helping to develop the next generation of transportation professionals.
Each department created their own fun activities for the students.
All three campuses placed in the top 10 for ethnic diversity.
These efforts include on-campus information sessions, résumé-writing workshops and networking events designed to showcase Google’s company culture and job prospects.
This internship was part of Project Hōkūlani, housed in UH Mānoa’s Center on Disability Studies, College of Education.

The summer program is supported by a UH Mānoa project called “Ka mana o ka lā: Modeling our energy future.”
The goal of the series was to foster interest in computer science through project-based learning and peer mentorship.
The highest ranked programs are in the William S. Richardson School of Law ranking No. 23 for both best part-time law programs and best environmental law programs.
