John Takami Morita was born in Honolulu in 1943. He holds a BA in history from Chaminade College, Honolulu, 1965; a BFA in photography from San Francisco Art Institute, 1974; and a MA in printmaking from San Francisco State University, 1976. He received an Individual Artist Fellowship Merit Award, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, 1995; Print Club Selection Award, The Print Club, Philadelphia, 1988; First Prize, Intergrafik International Print Triennial, Berlin, 1987; and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant, 1986. He has had solo exhibitions at The Print Club, Philadelphia, 1990; Intergrafik '90, Berlin, 1990; Gallery EAS, Honolulu, 1990; and the Alternative Museum, New York, 1987.
