Guided Meditation & Cosmology Mapping with Sarita Doe
+ Performative Lecture by champoy
Artist-partners and co-parents Sarita Dougherty and champoy regenerate culture with their ancestors, imagination and the Earth. Moving in and out of institutional and reclaimed spaces, the two build habitat and pedagogies for play and resilience! Inspired by the flexibility of bamboo, they will relay alter/native methods for learning, decolonizing and generating rhizomatic resilience.
Sarita will guide participants in a meditation and cosmology-mapping inspired by her DIY PhD and Dissertation: A Textbook for the Ecocene. Sarita will lead participants in a guided meditation followed by her ongoing pedagogical practice to map the world we are co-creating. Center, then imagine the world that you deeply feel empowered, nurtured by, and one in return that you empower, nurture. Together we will draft circular imaginings and drawings of visions of sustainable life on this abundant planet.
champoy will give a performative talk on unlearning, bypassing modernism, and burning colonial bridges. champoy’s indio-futurismo work interweaves Filipino epistemologies with found objects and humor to immerse viewers in decolonial masculinity and play.
Pag+mul+mula+an, or “Place of Plants”, is a learning environment, a metaphorical garden space for the reclamation of ancestral knowledge and the generation of new ways of knowing. Join us in the Art Gallery from March 8-April 9, 2020 for various events exploring plants and language. With support from SEED Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Success (IDEAS) Grant.
Sarita & champoy will be sharing their work in an additional off-site exhibition at Aupuni Space opening on Friday, March 27th.
