Admitted students

Congratulations for being admitted to CIS PhD program. This is a great success!

First of all, Office of Graduate Education will send you the official letter by mail.
Please note that Hawaiian islands are pretty far, therefore it might take some time before you receive the documentation (especially if it is sent outside of USA). In case of doubt, please contact CIS chair.

You will be asked to send the scan of signed contract.

Furthermore, please keep in mind all the requirements by Office of Graduate Education that are stated on the page for Admitted Students.

At some point, you will be invited to create an UH username, that will be your email address and log-in to all of the UHM systems:

 • MyUH- where you will manage all of your personal, financial, enrollment, housing, class and other information. Please keep in mind the clearances that will be visible on your MyUH accounts, that have to be lifted before enrolling the semester.
 • Laulima- on-line collaboration tool where you will be provided with class material and discussion boards.
 • Halawai- on-line conference tool, for attending CIS 720 seminar, if not in possibility to be physically present.
 • UHM Library Systems, for ordering physical and downloading the on-line material.

Enrollment to Autumn Semmester

The Autumn Semester at UHM usually stars in mid August/early September. New students are encouraged to be physically present couple of weeks before the semester starts, as some will be required to go through several orientations (e.g. new graduate students orientation, new TA orientation, international students orientation etc.) before being able to enroll to Autumn semester.

Furthermore, please keep in mind that the administration fee (for 2016) of $440 per semester is to be payed during its first month.

Once you discuss with CIS Chair about the courses that you will enroll, and have all the holds lifted, you can sign up to the courses via MyUH Portal. This will allow you to get UH ID card, with all its benefits.

International Students

Please keep in mind all of the information that is stated at the:

International Student Services web site, especially regarding visa and health insurance, and carefully read the Welcome Brochure.

Furthermore, you can take in consideration the housing that is provided by UHM services: https://manoa.hawaii.edu/housing/communities/all, both on and off campus. Finally, you can also apply for some of the programs that would partially substitute the price of housing (e.g. East West Student Affiliate Program).

Finally, keep in mind the Health Clearance Requirements. To reduce the costs, try to do vaccination in your home country, and more than 4 weeks before coming to USA (You CANNOT take the TB skin test if you have taken the MMR vaccine in the past, and in that case you have to pay an X-Ray).

For any doubts and questions, please contact CIS chair.
