The University of Hawaiʻi made Newsweek’s first “America’s Greatest Workplaces 2023 for Diversity” list. The list scored 1,000 companies in the U.S. that employees said respected and valued people from varied backgrounds.

According to Newsweek, “…it is well-documented that workplaces filled with people with different worldviews are more creative, more innovative and generally make better decisions. Employing a wide variety of people who feel comfortable and respected isn’t a desirable perk, it is simply good business.”

UH scored 4 out of 5 stars in the Public Administration category. Newsweek and market research Plant-A Insights reviewed publicly available data, interviewed human resources professionals and administered an anonymous online survey of employees at companies and organizations with 1,000 or more employees.

Respondents were asked about working culture and environment and other subjects at both their own and other companies/organizations. The survey yielded more than 350,000 reviews.
