Rainbow Warrior swimmer Mario Surkovic

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa swimmer Mario Surkovic was named the Big West Men’s Athlete of the Week following an outstanding performance to open the season at the Triton Invitational in California.

The senior had five top-five finishes, including two victories, helping the Rainbow Warriors secure a second-place team finish in the men’s standings. This marks Surkovic’s fourth career weekly honor and his first from the Big West.

He led the way with a gold medal in the 200 IM (1:47.44), UH’s first individual win of the season, and added a bronze in the 100 free (43.52) and a fourth-place finish in the 100 breast (54.65).

In relay action, he helped the Rainbow Warriors capture first place in the 200 free relay with 19.19 split on the third leg, and contributed to a bronze finish in the 200 medley relay with a 50 breast split of 23.98.

UH will return to competition for dual meets against Grand Canyon University, set for Oct. 24–25 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. The event will also mark the season debut for the Rainbow Wahine and Rainbow Warrior dive teams.
