A professor at the UH Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law, Jon Van Dyke has engaged in research in the highest professional tradition and has created an extensive body of work of great value to his students, researchers and scholars across many disciplines, and the general public.

Van Dyke has written frequently on issues related to Native Hawaiian rights. His book Who Owns the Crown Lands of Hawai‘i? is the culmination of 12 years of research and is already being used in university classes.

Van Dyke is a prolific scholar whose remarkable range includes international ocean law, international environmental law, human rights law and constitutional law.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research is awarded by the Board of Regents in recognition of scholarly contributions that expand the boundaries of knowledge and enrich the lives of students and the community. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching.
